The Kilimanjaro marathon is a little under six weeks away. I am feeling much better about it than I was at the beginning of my training. I've been training a bunch on hills and today I felt great during my 9-mile tempo run. The weather for the past few days has been cooperatively cool which has helped. I'm two-and-a-half weeks away from my 20-miler and then, let the taper begin.
Rumor has it the marathon is relatively flat until mile 15, at which point there is a 5-mile uphill stretch that gains 300m of altitude. The course peaks at mile 20, 1100m above sea level, and then it's all downhill for the remaining 6.2 miles. I'm trying to psych myself up for this inevitability. I suppose knowing is half the battle.
