Halfies (and one honorary) unite

Yesterday was the second annual Japan Day Festival, celebrated on Central Park’s East Meadow. Before the festivities was a 4-mile run sponsored by the New York Road Runners. I ran with Sonya and Kae (my half-Japanese sistahs) and Jenn. For the occasion I made some shirts about which we got some funny comments. As we were crossing the start line the race announcer gave us a shout out, but from where he was sitting he couldn’t see the entire message so what came out over the loudspeaker was “The genes, the pride!” My favorite comment of the day, which came from a woman pre-race, can be read in Jenn’s post about the race.
After the race we went to the Festival which was a bit of a disappointment in terms of food and variety of activities available, but it was such a beautiful, sunny day that we all just sat out and enjoyed being in the park.
And, the highlight of it all: meeting Kitty-chan.
