Rickshaw madness

One of the first things you notice when you arrive in Allahabad is how different the pedicabs are from those of other cities. They are brightly painted with beautiful designs. The first photo is an example of an Allahabad rickshaw.

Here in Varanasi, pedicabs are less decorative, but much more prevalent. Yesterday, riding to and from the old part of town for a little shopping was utter chaos. Rickshaws were wheel to wheel on the congested roads, and each time we stopped we would hit the back of the one in front of us, only to be bumped ourselves, seconds later. The latter two photos- one day ride, one night ride - are my attempts to capture the traffic scenes, but really there is no way to do them justice through photo. Despite the madness, last night's rickshaw rides were some of the best moments I've had in India, and Varanasi has quickly become my favorite stop on the tour.
